Tuan and Catherine’s West Auckland home was a place filled with potential but held back by its dated design and lack of functionality. With a growing family, they needed a space that could adapt to their lifestyle—somewhere their teenagers could hang out, guests could feel welcome, and the family could connect with nature. They dreamed of a home that was not only beautiful but also practical, with a modern kitchen, dedicated teen zones, and a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living.

The Challenges
The house came with its fair share of hurdles. The sloped ceilings and exposed rafters required creative design solutions, while the deteriorating membrane deck needed a complete overhaul. The building consent process was complex, especially with the addition of a downstairs bathroom and sink in the rumpus room. Catherine had a clear vision for her kitchen and bathroom, but bringing it all together required careful planning and expertise.
Before & After
Drag the slider and see the transformation!
Before: The home felt cramped and outdated, with limited functionality. The kitchen was dark and inefficient, the rumpus room was underutilized, and the outdoor deck was in poor condition. The lack of a downstairs bathroom made it inconvenient for guests and teens.
After: The transformation is nothing short of remarkable. The kitchen is now a light-filled hub with Melteca Spinifex panels, oak finishes, and a cozy study nook. The rumpus room has been revitalized with a new sink and separate bathroom, creating a functional space for teens and guests. Outside, the new deck invites the family to relax and enjoy their beautiful backyard.
“Designing Tuan and Catherine’s home was a joy. We blended their love for nature with functional family living—creating a light-filled kitchen, cozy study nook, and teen-friendly spaces. It’s a home where beauty meets practicality, and I’m thrilled with the result.”
