Creating Space for Family Life
Lynfield Bungalow 2024
A home full of potential — that no longer fit the family.
Tuan and Catherine’s Lynfield bungalow had the right bones and the right neighbourhood. With teenagers in the house and a growing family, the way they actually used the home had moved on from the way it was laid out.
A dated kitchen with no flow to the living space. A rumpus room nobody used. A tired deck out the back. They wanted a home that worked for hosting, for the teens to spread out in, and that opened up to the garden they loved.
They knew exactly what they wanted. They just needed the right team to bring it together.

Sloped ceilings, a tired deck, and a rumpus nobody used.
The challenges were real. Sloped ceilings and exposed rafters made the kitchen design tricky. The membrane deck was past its life. And adding a downstairs bathroom plus a sink in the rumpus room meant going through the full consent process.
“We worked through Catherine’s vision piece by piece — from the Melteca Spinifex panels to the timber oak screen — and pulled it together as one cohesive design.
From there it became one connected build: open up the kitchen with a skylight and oak finishes, design a study nook around the existing roof line, add a downstairs bathroom and rumpus sink with full consent, refresh the laundry, and replace the deck for indoor-outdoor flow.
A renovation, not a rebuild. Same home, made for the way they live now.
A home that finally works the way the family lives.
The kitchen is the new heart of the home — light-filled, with a skylight, oak finishes and Melteca Spinifex panels. Downstairs, the rumpus has its own sink and bathroom so the teens have their own zone. The study nook sits perfectly under the sloped ceiling, and the new deck pulls the family out into the garden they love.
Same address Tuan and Catherine chose years ago — just finally a home that fits how the family actually lives.
Before & After
