Most Auckland interiors are stuck in 1995.
Beige carpet, fluorescent strip lighting, hollow internal doors, melamine cabinetry. A house can have a perfectly sound structure and still feel tired, dark, and cluttered because the inside hasn’t been touched in twenty years. An interior renovation transforms how every room feels and works — without the cost and disruption of moving walls. Done right, it’s the highest return-on-feel investment you can make in a home.
One team. Full responsibility.
Interior design, joinery design, costing, and construction integrated under one roof — so your interior renovation has one team accountable from your first call to the final paint coat.
One contract. One point of accountability.
Interior Design First
Material palette, lighting plan, joinery design, and colour scheme developed before any work begins — so the finished interior reads as one cohesive design, not a patchwork of finishes.
Fixed Pricing on Every Finish
Every floor finish, every fitting, every joinery item priced line-by-line by our QS. Locked in your Master Builder contract — not estimates that drift upward as you make selections.
Joinery Built In-House
Built-in cabinetry, wardrobes, vanities, and feature joinery designed and quoted by our team — not subcontracted out where the design intent gets lost between firms.
10-Year Master Build Guarantee
Every interior renovation over $30,000 is covered by the Registered Master Builders 10-Year Guarantee — workmanship, materials, and structural integrity.
From mood board to moved in.
An interior renovation is a five-stage journey. We organise it into three clear phases so you always know where you stand and what is next.

After 12+ years and 500+ Auckland interior renovations, here are the design choices our clients never regret — the things that still look right ten years later.
Flooring
European oak engineered boards in a wide plank. Natural finish, light-mid tone. Hides scratches, suits every interior style, doesn’t date.
Cabinetry
Painted timber doors in soft white, warm grey, or deep navy. Quality hardware. Stone benchtops. The “everything finish” combination.
Lighting
Three layers always — ambient pendants/downlights, task lighting at benches and beds, feature wall washing. Dimmers on every circuit.
Wall Colour
Warm whites as the base. Resene Half Sea Fog, Half Black White, Half Tea — they hold colour through sunlight changes and never feel sterile.
Joinery Details
Skirting at 90mm or 140mm, square-stop architraves, solid-core internal doors. The small details that make a home read as “renovated properly”.
Tiles
Large format porcelain (600×1200 or bigger) for bathrooms. Honed natural stone for feature areas. Ceramic mosaics for accent.

Interior renovation questions.
The questions Auckland homeowners ask us most often before committing to an interior renovation.
How much does an interior renovation cost in Auckland?
Interior renovation costs in Auckland depend on scope and finish level. A single-room refresh (flooring, repaint, lighting upgrade) starts around $15,000–$40,000. A multi-room interior renovation typically lands between $80,000 and $180,000. A whole-home interior renovation with new joinery throughout, full repaint, new flooring, and lighting design ranges from $150,000 to $300,000+. Premium designer interiors with bespoke joinery can sit above $400,000. The fixed price is locked in your Master Builder contract after design is complete.
How long does an interior renovation take?
Interior renovations are faster than structural work because no consent is typically required and no walls move. A single-room interior refresh takes 3 to 6 weeks on site. A multi-room interior renovation runs 8 to 14 weeks. A whole-home interior renovation usually takes 3 to 6 months including design, ordering long-lead joinery and tiles, and the actual build. Add 4 to 8 weeks of design and selection time before site work starts.
Can I live in my home during an interior renovation?
It depends on the scope. For a single-room refresh, yes — easily. For a multi-room interior renovation, most clients stay in the home but accept some disruption (dust, noise, sections of the house offline at different times). For a whole-home interior renovation that includes kitchen and bathroom rebuilds at the same time, we usually recommend moving out for 6 to 10 weeks of the core work to avoid the most disruptive period.
Do I need building consent for an interior renovation?
Most interior renovations don’t need building consent because they don’t change the structure or services. Repainting, new flooring, new joinery, lighting upgrades, and replacing internal doors are exempt under Schedule 1 of the Building Act. Consent is required if your renovation includes: removing or altering load-bearing walls, changing the plumbing or drainage layout, replacing the switchboard, or adding new wet areas. We handle any consent work directly with Auckland Council on your behalf.
Will an interior renovation add value to my home?
Yes, a well-designed interior renovation typically returns 100 to 150% of its cost in added market value at sale, especially in Auckland markets where buyers expect a modern, move-in-ready home. Kitchens, bathrooms, and flooring give the strongest return. The trap to avoid is over-personalising — sticking with classic, broadly-appealing materials and colours protects resale value while still giving you a home that feels fresh and modern for ten years.
Do you do design as well as build?
Yes — we are a design-and-build company. Our interior designer works with you on the material palette, joinery design, lighting plan, and overall scheme before any pricing or building work. You get a fully resolved interior design as part of one contract, not separate design and build phases with separate firms. If you already have an interior designer or architect involved, we work alongside them and price-build to their design.
What’s the difference between an interior renovation and a cosmetic refresh?
A cosmetic refresh is paint, lighting, and minor fittings — typically 1 to 4 weeks, no joinery, no plumbing changes. An interior renovation is the next tier — new flooring throughout, new joinery, full lighting redesign, doors and trims, and complete redecoration. Most Auckland clients land on the interior renovation tier because the cosmetic refresh leaves too much of the dated 1990s/2000s detail in place to feel like a real change.
How do I choose between renovating room-by-room or all at once?
Doing the whole interior in one project is almost always cheaper per room — you pay one set of design fees, one project setup, one bulk material order, and the trades are on site once. Doing it room-by-room over years means living with the disruption multiple times, plus the inconsistency of finishes selected at different times. We usually recommend whole-home interior renovation when scope and budget allow, with a clear phasing plan if you can’t do everything at once.
Will my interior renovation match the existing house?
That’s exactly what good interior design solves. Our interior designer works on a cohesive scheme that ties new interior work back to the architecture of the existing home — picking up details from period features in a villa, simplifying for modern Lockwoods, or going contemporary if the home suits it. Auckland villas, bungalows, plaster homes, and modern builds all need different interior design approaches, and we tailor accordingly.
Is my interior renovation covered by the Master Builder Guarantee?
Yes, every interior renovation project we deliver over $30,000 is covered by the Registered Master Builders 10-Year Guarantee. This is a third-party guarantee underwritten by the Master Builders Association, independent of Add Value Renovations. It covers two years of workmanship and materials, ten years of structural integrity, and ten years of weathertightness — applicable to any structural or weatherproofing work included in your interior renovation scope.
